About The Event
What do boats and rug hooking have in common? In Atlantic Canada, both are deeply woven into the fabric of our social and cultural heritage. For centuries, boats have been essential for fishing, travel, and trade, shaping livelihoods and communities. At the same time, rug hooking has been a cherished tradition, with women—and sometimes men—gathering to create rugs that provided warmth, beauty, and a sense of connection. This rug hooking class celebrates both traditions by blending maritime themes with the artistry of hooking, honoring the resilience, creativity, and heritage of our coastal way of life.
In this class, you will hook a 12" x 12" dory resting on a flat, calm sea, where the light from the sunrise (or sunset) filters through the sky and casts colorful shadows on the water below. You might choose to add a vibrant reflection beneath the bow, a frayed anchor line, or a bright…
